These concept illustrations are very dear to me. As an illustrator I tried to explore new skills by depicting people as musical instruments. An entire living orchestra. Because we all have our own musicality. In the way we move, we love, we laugh, we dance. Just close your eyes and listen. And now open your eyes and see the music in each illustration.
The idea came to me on my first trip to Berlin. I fell in love with its streets and musicality and instead of taking photos I just painted what I heard and felt while listening to the city. People walking on the streets with a specific rhythm, moving as dancing, an entire neverending concert. You only had to stop and be silent for a second. And listen.
I used bright, happy colors in Music Land Paintings because that was the feeling I felt while illustrating them. Just like when I’m listening to music. The same feeling. Only now it’s music you can actually see.
