In 2016 I had the privilege of entering the world of children’s book illustrations. It was an amazing challenge to bring to life these three books for kids: “Erus and the Valley of Patience”, “Erus and the Valley of Gratitude” and “Erus and the Valley of Love” all written by Alec Blenche, published at the Univers Publishing House.
You’re now seeing a long-term project that I loved to illustrate. It’s a universe I created character by character, valley by valley, emotion by emotion. It was very important for me not to illustrate each written word, but to create an entire universe around them. To compliment and complete each other for children to have a multi-dimensional story unfold in front of their eyes.
The children’s book illustrations from the first two books were made with gouache paints, on textured paper. Afterwards I scanned and digitally painted them. The illustrations for the third book were done with a Wacom tablet in Adobe Photoshop.
Different techniques, same love for the characters. You can see that in the vivid colors, rounded shapes and expressive details.
